I uploaded a new version this morning (1.3.4). This changes the default values for some schedule types, and also applies these default values at the first startup (not the case for users which already have Power Schedule installed).
This was the cause some users reported the app is not working – they saw the default values in the schedule and didn’t change them. This in fact didn’t apply them at all 🙁
Sorry for that.
It should be solved now. I just want to mention that if the app is not working for you, please contact me first (before submitting a negative comment or rating), and I’ll try to fix / answer your questions.
Thank you all.
Some users are concerned about the permissions some applications require. Power Schedule requires some permissions too, so here’s why:
Power Schedule is started for less than a second at startup, to be able to apply the schedule settings. This is because Android does not persist alarms when it’s rebooted. Therefore, Power Schedule needs to be notified when the system has started.
This is required to be able to activate /deactivate Airplane Mode (“Phone” means “Telephony” only, not your complete Android device).
Same as above – this reads the current “Airplane Mode” status.
Settings are written to the device when Airplane Mode is activate / deactivated
This is required to manage the device’s Wireless Lan status.
Same as above, this reads the current WiFi status
This permission is required to change the “Ringer” profile (ie. silent / normal)
Required for general Bluetooth status management.
Required for general Bluetooth status management.
Power Schedule needs access to the internet for updates
I hope this explains it all. If you have any other concerns, please contact me – I’ll be glad to explain everything.
I’m a developer. I’m not a designer. So I was wondering if anyone can help me out with a new icon for Power Schedule (preferably in a vector format, PNG would be great – so I can scale it properly). I know the current icon is not very suggestive nor good. And since its the first thing the user sees, I would like it to look better.
Unfortunately I don’t have much to offer for the help, except for eternal thanks, having the name posted and a link to your website.
So, anyone interested? 🙂
I was finally able to publish the bugfix version to the Market (after a number of page refreshes, timeouts and 404 errors). I fixed some small issues which the users complained about. I also added a “Share…” button. If you find Power Schedule useful, pleas share it with your friends (via Facebook, Twitter, email etc.). It doesn’t take much time on your side, it would just motivate me to make it better and better. I hope it’s not too much to ask. Thank you 🙂
I updated Power Schedule to 1.3. I added “Data Connection” schedule as a new feature, and also changed a few texts (for example I renamed “Phone” to “Telephony” – some people thought turning “Phone” off would actually power off your device completely… when I actually meant just the “phone” (GSM /CDMA) part of your Android device). Anyhow, I hope “Telephony” removes some of that confusion.
Data schedule will now let you disable sync during night, for example (if you want to keep your WiFi off and Telephony on, but don’t want to get new e-mails, for example). Of course, it’s up to you to define your schedule.
I am also working on a major overhaul of the UI – making it more… Android-esque? I am also trying to add a few more options for “power users”, who are not satisfied with the standard settings. So update your version and stay tuned for new updates.
I just uploaded a version 1.2. I added (preliminary) Bluetooth support – it can now be configure individually. Well, sorta. It seems that if Airplane mode is ON (therefore Phone is off), Bluetooth can’t be started. It’s an Android platform limitation – I’m not sure if it can be resolved at all (but I will do my best).
So, push your update button in the Market 🙂
PS. If you like this app, please recommend it and share your review with other people – I know, it’s far from perfect – but it will be :).
I’m finally back, after a long 3000 km watch-the-laptop drive in Europe. The results? I can’t comment on that (company policy). But I’m just glad it’s over.
So now I’ll have some time for the promised update (now that Power Schedule surpassed 1000 downloads – YAY!).
You can check back from time to time for updates – or easier, follow me on Twitter :).
HTC is busy these days at Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona. They just launched their first tablet and a series of new smartphones… some which feature a dedicated “Facebook” key. I’m sure people waste too much time on existing devices with Sense, until they get to open Facebook. Therefore, the need for a special key. 🙂

On a side note, Power Schedule has reached 500 downloads – not so bad for my first app (but these Market stats update so slowly – c’mon Google). Anyhow, I plan to release an update these days (1.2) – it’s mainly some UI improvements, to make it more intuitive for new users. If anyone can help with translations in other languages, I would appreciate it. Just drop me a message.
I just updated Power Schedule to 1.1. I realized some people don’t want their phone turned off during the night, for example, but also don’t want to be disturbed by its ringing also. So the keep your “missed calls” AND your sleep undisturbed, I added the Ring Profile schedule as well.
Check your updates in the Market.
You take a sick leave for 2 days. You get back to work and wish you didn’t. Exactly what happened to me this morning. So I can’t enjoy fully the fact that my Android Market stats have finally updated :). So now there are 200 people using my app.
Thank you very much. I would appreciate it if you could also rate it 🙂
